Workshop: Repair, Reuse and Recycle: 3D Printing for a Sustainable Future – Erasmus+ 3D Academy & Green 3D Detectives Synergies

workshops

As part of the Erasmus+ 3D Academy project, and taking advantage of the valuable synergies developed during the Green 3D Detectives mobility, students participated in an innovative hands-on workshop on 8 October 2026, focused on using 3D design and printing technologies to repair, reuse, and extend the lifespan of everyday objects and equipment.

During the activity, students explored how 3D modelling, 3D scanning, and additive manufacturing can be used to recreate damaged or missing components, providing practical alternatives to replacing entire devices and helping reduce waste.

Using a Bambu Lab 3D printer, students discovered the different stages of the digital manufacturing process, from analysing and scanning an existing component to designing, optimizing, and producing a replacement part.

This experience perfectly illustrated the synergy between the 3D Academy and Green 3D Detectives projects, combining the development of advanced digital and technical skills with environmental awareness and the principles of the circular economy.

While 3D Academy promotes innovative learning through 3D design, engineering, and digital manufacturing, Green 3D Detectives encourages students to investigate sustainable solutions, reduce waste, and protect the environment.

The workshop demonstrated how 3D printing can give damaged objects a second life, reducing unnecessary consumption and encouraging students to become creative problem-solvers and environmentally responsible innovators.

Special Thanks

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Alfonso Ballesteros and Czesmir Glogar , our workshop instructor, for his excellent explanations, practical demonstrations, and dedication to sharing his knowledge of 3D technologies.

His guidance helped students understand how 3D scanning, modelling, and printing can be applied to real-world repair and recycling challenges.

An inspiring example of Erasmus+ project synergy, where technological innovation, creativity, and environmental responsibility come together to build a more sustainable future!
