Workshop 6 Arkio Architectural VR

A collaborative architectural design workshop using Arkio VR. Participants will explore architectural concepts in immersive space, sketch and modify environments in real time, and experience spatial design through virtual reality collaboration tools.

As part of the second mobility of the 3D Academy Erasmus+ Project in Torremolinos, students explored the possibilities of Virtual Reality (VR) as a tool for design, creativity, and collaborative learning.

Using Meta Quest (Oculus Quest) headsets, participants worked with several immersive applications, with a particular focus on Arkio, an innovative platform that enables users to create, visualize, and modify three-dimensional environments directly in virtual reality. Through Arkio, students were able to experience a completely new approach to 3D modelling, interacting with digital objects at real scale and collaborating within shared virtual spaces.

The activity allowed students to design structures, experiment with spatial concepts, and understand the principles of three-dimensional design in a highly intuitive way. Unlike traditional computer-based modelling, Arkio provides an immersive environment where ideas can be developed and evaluated from a first-person perspective, making the design process more accessible, interactive, and collaborative.

Students also had the opportunity to explore creative applications such as Open Blocks and Open Brush, which complemented the experience by allowing them to build and draw freely in three-dimensional space. Together, these tools demonstrated how virtual reality can transform the way people create, communicate, and develop design projects.

The workshop highlighted the growing role of immersive technologies in education, architecture, engineering, and digital manufacturing. By working directly within virtual environments, students gained valuable experience with emerging technologies while developing creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and digital skills that are increasingly important in modern professional environments.

This activity successfully showcased how Virtual Reality can bridge the gap between imagination and creation, providing students with innovative ways to design, collaborate, and bring their ideas to life.
