Virtual Reality Open brush VR

An immersive creative workshop using Open Brush in virtual reality. Participants will explore drawing and sculpting in 3D space using VR tools, experimenting with scale, motion, and immersive artistic environments to create interactive spatial artworks.

Creative 3D Texturing and Digital Art with Open Brush

During the second mobility of the 3D Academy Erasmus+ Project in Torremolinos, students explored the creative potential of Virtual Reality (VR) through the use of Open Brush, an innovative application that allows users to draw, paint, and create directly in three-dimensional space.

Using Meta Quest (Oculus Quest) headsets, participants entered immersive virtual environments where they could design artistic compositions, create complex 3D shapes, and experiment with textures, colours, and visual effects in ways that are not possible with traditional drawing tools. Unlike conventional digital art software, Open Brush enables users to move freely around their creations and build designs from every angle, transforming the creative process into a fully immersive experience.

A key aspect of the workshop was the creation of three-dimensional textures and artistic surfaces, allowing students to understand how digital textures can add detail, depth, and realism to 3D models and virtual environments. Through hands-on experimentation, participants discovered how virtual brushes, materials, and effects can be combined to create unique visual results and enrich digital designs.

The activity encouraged creativity, imagination, and artistic expression while introducing students to technologies increasingly used in fields such as digital art, animation, game design, virtual production, and immersive media. By working in a virtual environment, students gained a better understanding of spatial design and developed new ways of thinking about artistic creation beyond the limits of traditional two-dimensional drawing.

This workshop demonstrated how tools such as Open Brush can transform the way students create and interact with digital content, combining art, technology, and innovation in an engaging learning experience. It also highlighted the growing importance of Virtual Reality as a platform for creative expression and future digital careers.
