Erasmus+ 3D Academy and Green ICT Detectives: A Week of Innovation, Technology and Sustainability in Málaga

During the second week of October 2026, the Erasmus+ 3D Academy project benefited from an exciting series of educational activities organized in synergy with the Green ICT Detectives mobility in Málaga, Spain.

This collaboration brought together students from IES Playamar (Spain) and Mendelova Secondary School (Czech Republic), who are also partners in the 3D Academy project, creating a valuable opportunity to strengthen international cooperation, exchange knowledge, and develop new technological skills.

Throughout the mobility, students participated in several innovative workshops and scientific visits connecting 3D technologies, digital engineering, scientific research, and environmental sustainability.

Activity Exploring the Picasso Supercomputer

Activity Exploring the Picasso Supercomputer

Students visited the Picasso Supercomputer at the University of Málaga’s research facilities in Málaga TechPark, discovering the evolution of high-performance computing, its technological infrastructure, and its applications in advanced scientific research. They also explored how powerful computing systems can support complex simulations, 3D modelling, and engineering innovation.

Workshop Microbit Programming and Smart Environmental Solutions

Workshop Microbit Programming and Smart Environmental Solutions

During a practical workshop, students learned to program Micro boards and connect moisture sensors, relays, and water pumps to develop smart irrigation systems. This activity demonstrated how programming, electronics, and digital technologies can contribute to water conservation and sustainable resource management.

Scientific Conference on Bioinformatics and Advanced Technologies

Scientific Conference on Bioinformatics and Advanced Technologies

Students attended an educational scientific session exploring the relationship between supercomputing, DNA research, bioinformatics, and emerging digital technologies. They discovered how computational modelling and 3D visualization can support scientific discoveries and improve research processes.

Workshop Repair, Reuse and Recycle Through 3D Printing

Repair, Reuse and Recycle Through 3D Printing

In another hands-on workshop, students explored how 3D scanning, modelling, and printing can be used to recreate damaged or missing components. Using Bambu Lab 3D printing technology, they learned how additive manufacturing can extend the lifespan of everyday objects, reduce waste, and promote circular economy principles.

3D Printed Burr Puzzles: Developing Spatial Intelligence

3D Printed Burr Puzzles: Developing Spatial Intelligence

Students also designed and produced traditional Burr Puzzles using 3D printing technologies. Through assembling and solving these challenging three-dimensional puzzles, they developed spatial visualization, logical reasoning, concentration, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

Strengthening Synergies Between European Projects

These activities represented an excellent example of synergy between the Erasmus+ 3D Academy and Green ICT Detectives projects.

While 3D Academy focuses on developing students’ competences in 3D design, digital manufacturing, engineering, and emerging technologies, Green ICT Detectives promotes environmental awareness and the responsible use of digital innovation to address sustainability challenges.

The participation of Mendelova Secondary School students, who are also involved in 3D Academy, made this experience particularly meaningful, reinforcing existing partnerships and encouraging the exchange of educational practices between European institutions.

By combining scientific visits, practical workshops, and international teamwork, the mobility demonstrated how European cooperation can multiply learning opportunities, strengthen digital competences, and inspire students to develop creative and sustainable technological solutions.

A Shared Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability

This mobility highlighted the importance of connecting different Erasmus+ initiatives to maximize their educational impact, share resources, and promote interdisciplinary learning.

Cost Efficiency and Resource Optimization Through Erasmus+ Project Synergies

One of the most remarkable achievements of this mobility was its exceptional cost efficiency. Thanks to careful planning and coordination between the Erasmus+ 3D Academy and Green Detectives of ICTs projects, all activities were designed to be compatible with the educational objectives of both initiatives.

Most of the organizational and operational costs were covered by the Green Detectives of ICTs project budget, allowing 3D Academy students to benefit from these valuable learning experiences at virtually no additional cost to the 3D Academy project.

This approach demonstrated how effective cooperation between Erasmus+ projects can maximize educational impact, optimize financial resources, avoid unnecessary duplication of expenses, and promote sustainable project management.

By sharing activities, expertise, equipment, and educational resources, both projects achieved complementary learning objectives while making highly efficient use of European funding.

An excellent example of responsible financial management and European project synergy, achieving greater educational impact with minimal additional expenditure.

A wonderful week of European collaboration, where 3D Academy and Green ICT Detectives joined forces to explore new technologies, develop practical skills, protect the environment, and inspire the next generation of European innovators!
